Egyptian Consulate General in Los Angeles Celebrates the 73 rd Anniversary of the July 23 Revolution with Distinguished Diplomatic and Community Attendance

Los Angeles, CA: In a vibrant display of national pride and cultural unity, the Consulate General of the Arab Republic of Egypt in Los Angeles hosted a special celebration marking the 73rd anniversary of Egypt’s historic July 23 Revolution a pivotal moment in the country’s path to independence and modern statehood.

The event was held under the gracious patronage of His Excellency Dr. Hossam El Din Ali, Consul General of Egypt in Los Angeles and the Western United States, and his esteemed spouse. The celebration welcomed a distinguished gathering of Egyptian, Arab, and international guests from across California, including diplomats, religious figures, community leaders, businesspeople, and members of the Egyptian diaspora.

Ambassadors and consular representatives from Kuwait, Iraq, Belgium, Indonesia, Thailand, Qatar, and Senegal were among the honored guests, as well as prominent members of various American sectors and institutions.

Representing His Eminence Metropolitan Serapion of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of Los Angeles, Southern California, and Hawaii, the evening was attended by Father Bishoy Aziz, alongside Catholic and Evangelical church leaders such as Reverend Dr. Hesham Kamel. Key figures from Islamic communities were also present, reflecting the diverse fabric of Egyptian society abroad.

Notable attendees included former Egyptian Consul General Ambassador El Husseiny Abdel Wahab, renowned businessman Mr. Raafat Salib President of the General Union of Egyptians Abroad in the U.S. and his spouse, along with Egyptian American Congressman Eng. Hesham Seteita and several founding members of the Union. Representatives from the Red Cross and the Office of the Los Angeles Mayor also took part in the celebration.

As part of the evening’s honors, Consul General Dr. Hossam El-Din Ali received several official recognitions from California state and local officials. Ms. Lourdes Saab, Chief of Protocol for the City of Los Angeles, presented a formal certificate of appreciation. Additionally, the official spokesperson of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors presented the Consul General with a proclamation honoring “Egyptian National Day” on behalf of the county’s more than 10 million residents. Mr. Asaad Al Najjar, candidate for Mayor of Los Angeles, also presented an honorary certificate.

In his keynote address, Dr. El Din Ali warmly welcomed attendees and emphasized the significance of the July 23 Revolution as a symbol of national liberation and sovereignty. He expressed deep pride in the enduring bond between Egyptians abroad and their homeland, and reiterated the Consulate’s commitment to serving the community with efficiency and transparency.

Delivering a heartfelt speech, Mr. Raafat Salib, President of the General Union of Egyptians Abroad in the U.S., extended his gratitude on behalf of the Union and himself to the Consul General. He praised the Consul’s continuous efforts to strengthen ties with the Egyptian community and to enhance consular services.

“This is the second time I have had the honor of attending the July 23 celebration at the invitation of His Excellency,” said Salib. “Since his arrival in the United States, we have witnessed tangible improvements in the Consulate’s performance most importantly, in the depth of connection he fosters with the community.”

He continued, “Tonight was a true patriotic mosaic Muslims, Orthodox Copts from Los Angeles and San Francisco, Evangelicals, Catholics, business leaders, media figures, and everyday Egyptians were all present. This reflects the Consul’s inclusive approach, his efforts to unify, and his commitment to building bridges across all sectors of the diaspora.”

Salib further highlighted the Consul General’s community engagement, noting his personal attendance at the “Friendship Soccer Tournament” organized by the Union’s Sports Committee. “He celebrated with the youth and honored the winners himself a testament to his genuine support for second and third generation Egyptian Americans.”

He also noted the improved efficiency of consular services on the West Coast: “Egyptian citizens here are now experiencing real, noticeable improvements in service speed and responsiveness a result of the Consul’s leadership and his team’s dedication.”

Concluding his remarks, Mr. Salib stated:

“Today, we felt like we were in the heart of Egypt with patriotic songs, traditional Egyptian food, and the warmth of true hospitality. We thank His Excellency for his vision, dedication, and inclusive leadership. He is a true model of modern Egyptian diplomacy, deserving of our utmost respect and appreciation.”

The evening concluded with a lively artistic performance by rising Egyptian American singer Sarah Pence, daughter of business leader Laila Pence, whose stirring voice captivated the audience. Guests then mingled, exchanged warm conversations, and took commemorative photos in an atmosphere filled with patriotic sentiment and community spirit.
